Volunteer Opportunities

Docent Training Program

The Orpheum Children’s Science Museum will resume its very successful docent training program. Educational docents attend a series of training sessions in order to be qualified to lead our discovery field trips for school groups visiting the Orpheum.

If you would like to lead hands-on science programs at the Orpheum,
please contact our volunteer coordinator.

Clerical Support

Help with typing, filing, copying, telephoning, word processing, database maintenance.

Field Trip Docents

Docent training will begin January 2009. Training will help prepare volunteers for leading educational school group visits on weekday mornings, Tuesdays through Fridays. This will cover topics such as simple machines, physics with toys, magnet magic, invisible energy, water, kitchen chemistry as well as the history of the Orpheum Museum and techniques for working with school-age children. Please be able to donate time on one day a week for 5 weeks (for training) and one day each week through the fall. If you would like more information or would like to register, contact our volunteer coordinator.

Orpheum Crew

If you enjoy working with your hands, no longer have a shop of your own, and would like to work with a group of other volunteers with construction skills, we are forming a new volunteer group to work at the Museum on Mondays. The Orpheum is closed to the public on Mondays and this day is being designated as an opportunity for building and exhibit maintenance. We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers who possess basic construction skills, enjoy working with their hands and fixing things, and would like to contribute.

Special Events
